Itinerary

Day 1: We meet in the morning for an introductory talk about the life of Sir Winston Churchill and where he fits into history. After lunch, it’s off for a spot of shopping, Churchill style. This is your chance to stock up on his favourite cigars and learn all about his favourite refreshments. The evening is reserved for a special night of  Second World War themed code-breaking and cocktails.

Day 2: Today we concentrate on young Churchill. We will be boarding a coach and leaving London to go to Blenheim Palace, where he was born, and where he rests today. From Victorian specialist Edward Gillin we’ll learn all about Sir Winston’s background, his early life and his path into politics. We will also stop to visit his grave.

Day 3: Today we will be exploring Churchill’s London concentrating on both world wars. Alex Churchill will lead a day of walking as we look at Churchill’s fluctuating fortunes in the First World War. We will learn all about his time at the Admiralty, and what he did after the disastrous Gallipoli campaign almost ended his career. Then it’s on to the Second World War. We will visit the Cabinet War Rooms and other sites before you return to your hotel to get dressed up. In the evening we will be all adjourn to one of Churchill’s favourite restaurants for a first class dinner and champagne.

Day 4: Today we concentrate on Churchill’s later life with a trip to Kent. We will be visitig Chartwell, his family home from 1922 until his death. It was here that he wrote his multi-volume history of the Second World War, and where he lived out his retirement. Churchill loved nothing more than a traditional English roast, and so we will adjourn to a local pub for a late Sunday lunch and a toast in his honour before the journey back to London.
